| 4. | Kramer, Edward E. (editor) Michael Bishop, Harlan Ellison, Chet Williamson, S.P. Somtow, Charles de Lint, David Niall Wilson, Caitlin Kiernan, Peter Crowther, Neil Gaiman, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Ray Bradbury, Gene Wolfe, John Shirley, Nancy Collins, F. STRANGE ATTRACTION USA Shadow Lands Press 2000 Hard Cover As New As New 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Lisa Snellings Signed by Author(s) and Artist(s) 445 pages. Signed by all contributors, B & W plates, limited to 500 numbered copies. An original anthology based on the mesmerizing sculptures of Lisa Snellings. The concept for Strange Attraction comes from the kinetic sculpture called Crowded After Hours by Lisa Snellings. The sculpture is of a carnival big wheel, peopled with odd and often haunting individuals, each marked by his or her own history. The wheel is quite crowded, in fact. Aside from those riding in the wheel's cars are those balanced between its spokes, hanging from its supports and twined in and about its bone-like frame. Each of these characters is at least a step removed from humanity. Some only to a small degree, others to the extent that one must wonder if any part of them was ever human. How did they come to be here, swaying on this ancient, creaking wheel that materializes in the mists each night when the booths are dark? As midnight approaches, and the Joeys sleep restless in traces of their grease-painted grins, its thin music grows stronger, the bone-joints of its frame more solid..and it begins to move, its turning somehow out of phaze, dizzying. There is no stopping to momentarily tease and dangle the topmost riders. None get off. No new riders climb on. But occasionally, on darker midnights, a new soul finds a place on the wheel. Did it wander there accidently? Or by some ill-fated scheme of its own doing? Or was it lured there by some inexplicable, strange attraction? The wheel turns, creaking. The carnival whispers with faint echoes of screams lost in the long ago. Price: 59.00 USD | See Full Description |
